Half day walk options using the Kepler Water Taxi

Brod Bay to Te Anau

Around 10km - Allow at least 2.5hrs

Take the Kepler Water Taxi to Brod Bay and walk the 5km lake edge path to the Control Gates along the Kepler Track, and then back to Te Anau.

The first section gives frequent views across the lake towards Te Anau with side trips to the various beaches along the way. After the 9km walk to the Control Gates, you can arrange to be picked up at the Kepler Track Car Park (arrange using Track Net - www.tracknet.co.nz) or continue walking to Te Anau.

The 5km track to Te Anau follows the lake edge path with stunning views of the Fiordland Mountains. This route also passes through the Te Anau Wildlife Park where rare and endangered New Zealand birds can be seen. Time this trip right and see the birds being fed (more information from DOC - www.doc.govt.nz).

Walk through Te Anau along the lake edge path to the Kepler Water Taxi wharf where you started.

Te Anau to Brod Bay

Around 10km - Allow at least 2.5hrs

Essentially the same as above in reverse. The main difference is the time constraint for arriving in Brod Bay for the Water Taxi trip back, although on hot days the afternoon forest walk will give some shade!
